BBA: Baserunners Bases Advanced Baseball has a number of stats that are generally used to compare performance. However, batting average, on base percentage, or OPS do not effectively portray the value of a player to a team because they are only measure one positive aspect of a batter's performance. To compare players more accurately, I wanted to create a statistic that could quantatively and qualitatively compare a batter's performance. I believe that a plate appearance can terminate in two non-mutually exclusive outcomes: (1) the advancement of a baserunner; or (2) an out. Baserunner bases advanced ("BBA") (e.g., BBA=2*doubles) and outs* (e.g., outs=2 for a GDP) can then be compared to estimate the overall performance.
